The Rutgers School of Management and Labor Relations, in partnership with the Career Services Online (CSO), is offering a new, improved Mentoring Network website tool.  The Mentoring Program, supported by CSO, is fueled by a secure website.  The Mentoring Program website offers a means to connect SMLR graduate students with SMLR alumni who will guide, coach and counsel them. It will also feature members of our RUSHRM organization who will help to mentor new students in their first year of study.

We invite SMLR alumni and members of RUSHRM to become a Mentor to a graduate student by connecting to the following secured CSO website link: https://www.myinterfase.com/rutgers-smlr/mentor/

You will be requested to complete a Mentor profile; the instructions are intuitive and easy to follow.  Graduate students will be able to access the mentor network when they log in to their side of the system.  Once you are registered, sit back and wait for a graduate student to contact you.  Graduate students will have ten opportunities per month to find a mentor who is well suited to his or her needs.

November 9, 2009

Please join the NJ Labor & Employment Relations Association at our dinner meeting on Monday November 9thDr Eileen Appelbaum of SMLR is the guest speaker and the topic is "After the Crisis: Labor and Employment Relations for Sustained Recovery and Growth."

Program details - Recovery from the economic crisis has been framed in terms of reform of the financial system to restore the flow of credit and fiscal stimulus to restore job growth. While the dangers of a bubble economy have now been recognized, the “collateral damage” to the employment relationship from outsized growth of a deregulated financial sector has not been part of the conversation. The current “great recession” is the third global financial crisis in a decade (third world debt crisis in 1998, dot-com boom and bust in 2000-2001, and the housing bubble and financial markets crash in 2008-2009). Eileen Appelbaum will talk about the lessons of the past decade and why it’s important to focus on getting employment relations right if we are going to achieve sustained recovery and growth.

We'll be meeting at the Hilton Garden Inn at Raritan Center in Edison at 6:00 pm.  For further information, email montalbanoemail@yahoo.com or download the form at www. njlera.rutgers.edu.  Hope to see you there!
